Discover the work of Youssef Tappozada (1909–1990), one of the most important painters of Egypt’s first generation of modern artists.
At the age of 14, Tappozada travelled to Rome to study art before returning to Egypt, where he developed his own distinctive artistic vision. His work was influenced by the Spanish artist Joaquín Sorolla, particularly in his use of light, white tones, and carefully balanced compositions inspired by the Golden Section.
In this painting, Tappozada captures a view of Alexandria’s coast, where the boat and umbrellas become key elements within a scene filled with light, atmosphere, and movement.
Beyond his paintings, Tappozada also left an important mark on Egypt’s artistic landscape as the artist behind the murals at the Giza Zoo.
This work reflects his ability to transform a familiar Egyptian scene into a carefully composed and luminous visual experience.
